New listener, but long time Indy fanatic (I played Heidiana Jones as a little girl) and I have to say that I am do glad you shared your thoughts on this film. I wholeheartedly, 100% agree. This film was so underwhelming and so convoluted. Like you, I read the positive reviews and feel thoroughly puzzled. I kept waiting for Indy to get that spark or hunger in his eyes. You can’t bill this as one final adventure when, really, he’s just phoning it in the whole time. It felt like Disney took Indy hostage (and don’t get me wrong, I enjoy Disney films…just not Disney Indy) and forced him to make a film against his will. For it to be satisfying, I’d need to see some kind of growth or transformation in him…from apathetic to inspired again. Instead, he wants to die. How do you even play the Indy fanfare to THAT?! Anyway, that’s spot on what you’ve said.
