I am pretty sure you are remembering wrong about the dog killing the girl. It is never stated that the dog killed her. And in the 1959 Hammer version he kills the girl. In the 1983 tv movie the girl does indeed survive and escapes while the dog kills sir Hugo. Love the show! keep it up! Greetings from Norway.
