Chris and Dave, with Luke sitting in as their live studio audience of one, watch Indiana Jones and the Ashes of Nurhachi, a 24-minute AI-generated fan film on YouTube set just before Temple of Doom. They dig into what works (Wu Han finally gets something to do, Sallah’s endless brothers-in-law, a cast of familiar ’80s faces) and what doesn’t (glitchy physics, mouths that don’t match the words and a few groan-worthy puns). Then they take on the bigger questions: likeness and consent, whether actors can be replaced and where fan-made AI fits.

02 To Indiana Jones in Character, the podcast that takes a closer look at the artifacts that make up the world of Indiana Jones. Backstories, histories, and details about some of our favorite characters. And now, here are this week’s hosts of Indiana Jones in Character. Hello, welcome to Indiana Jones in Character. You heard it correct. You you heard it here first. Correct. And Luke is joining us as well. Luke is here because we just did something else and he doesn’t leave. So he’s here just to eavesdrop. He just like sits there, like audience of one. Audience of one. You’re right. Our star, our live studio audience of one. Yes, they’ve had this idea and I think it’s a brilliant idea. He you texted me something. A while ago. Hey, did you watch? We actually do an episode. By the Indiana Jones and the Ashes of Nurhachi. And you said, Have you seen this? And I go,
03 What the fuck is that? I didn’t even know what you were saying. Yeah, it came out like two weeks ago. Yeah. And then I googled it and I watched it and I said, and you said we could do an episode that said, done. It’s the AI version of Indiana Jones. I think it’s worth talking about because it is very interesting. Good things here, some not so good things here. But like, I was interested in your overall impression. And then I also would like to talk if. If we Can if you not to get super serious, but I also think we should talk as to whether or not movies like this should even be made. Yeah, like isn’t this like what AI is taking over the world? They’re saying by the end of the decade. They have to wipe out humanity. Skynet’s going to happen. Well, I don’t believe that. There are other Um debate topics that come up with these AI movies. As to the ecological
04 um affect the data centers and and AI has and taking its toll on the planet. Aside from data centers. Was my buddy? The data centers. Isn’t it like there’s these four big billionaires that are making all this stuff? Well, I mean, this is it’s a hot topic now. Yeah. And and whether or not also these movies should be made people’s likenesses without their consent. I am, I am torn with. Like, I will say this: there’s been two new. Superman. AIs just released that I watched one with him and Supergirl Helen Slater comes back. To his farm, and one is with him visiting his mother. And it’s Christopher Reeve. In both of these, I will say this: I don’t It’s like those old in the 90s when you went to cons and there’s like fan-made videos of superheroes. Like it was just people making like their fan thing. I don’t mind little clips, like a five-minute thing or less. Just something.
12 That comes out there. A two-hour movie like this Indiana Jones thing, or maybe another Superman thing. I don’t think I would like that. I don’t mind little. It’s too long, and after a while, I’m like, this is like little fan love towards something. I guess I don’t mind. Well, that’s what this is, honestly. Yeah. This is made by people called Lord Skiff. An aesthetic rebel. Now, this Lord Skiff, I look on their page and I’m seeing all this on YouTube. So, if you don’t know what we’re talking about, there is a prequel to the prequel of Indiana Jones called Indiana Jones and the Ashes of Nurhachi. It came out like two weeks ago. It’s got, at this point, 281,000 views. And it is the These people’s fan film, and there’s a disclaimer even at the beginning of the video saying That they Have no rights to anything to anything Disney Lucas film, but it is made by fans for fans.
15 and fills in some of the gaps as to what is happening before. The stuff we see in Indiana Jones. and the Temple of Doom. Yes. And it’s it was fun to watch. Like it was really entertaining. Like, and like you said, some stuff like lines up, they explain the little gap. And other things I’m like, why? I just shake my head. Yeah, okay. Yeah, I thought it was worth talking about. So if you haven’t If you listen to the show and you haven’t seen it yet, maybe it would be best if you Um are not anti-AI. And would Would support something AI made even by just watching it. It is on YouTube. So maybe watch that and then listen to our discussion because we are going to kind of talk about some of the things in this video. It is, how long is it? It’s 24 minutes long. So it is not, you know, like the full two-hour length movie thing that you’re talking about. but more of a short fan film.
18 Mm right. So whatever you think about that stuff is 100% your entitled. response to any of these things and we support that. We’re just saying that this is a video that’s out that we did watch, and it’s worth talking about. Why isn’t there any any AI sex things made yet, D? I’m sure there are. I mean, I don’t know. If anybody was going to know where to find those, it would be you. Why are you asking me? Well, guess what? I’m going to start searching during this episode. If you’re going to go, oh my God, then you know why. Yeah, right. You’re gonna find some like Teri Hatcher, Dean Cain kinda I would watch that. Every night. We’ll never see you again. No, no, this is my last podcast. This is it. You’re giving up on life if you find that. Yep. Done. Well, this thing is, like we said, Indiana Jones Temple of Doom certainly a prequel to everything. This is a prequel to that prequel setting up. That very first scene at Club Obi-Wan taking place in China in 1935.
25 And they even do the mountain fade in. Like they do in the Indiana Jones. And it was fantastic. It was it was cute. Yeah. ‘Cause it starts with the Paramount logo. Which they also don’t have the rights to. But I think there must be a thing. These people obviously know what they’re doing. If you say, this is a fan film, I don’t own any of these things. I’m not making any money off of this. You can do stuff like this. You know what I mean? Like, that’s, as long as you say, I don’t own any of these rights, you can do anything you want. I don’t know. I think you can do stuff that you want as long as you’re not charging people. Hear me out. What if they did, like, you know, we don’t own the rights to Indiana Jones, but then they make a video of Indiana Jones like getting. chopped up in little pieces and mailed to his family. Like, that’s, you know what I mean? Like, Yeah. Can they do that? Yeah, I’m pretty sure. Yeah. And then eventually, like what’s happening with Mickey Mouse, Winnie the Pooh, and Popeye, and soon to be Batman. And Superman.
26 Once that Contract runs out, the copyright runs out, then you can make and do whatever you want to do and charge for it. And not be sued by anyone above, right? I guess, yeah, yeah, yeah. At some point, it belongs losing the rights to Batman. There’s a rule. Like, we’re so many years in the contract. I don’t know what it is. Like, it’s only a couple of more years. Can we renew the contract? No. No. No. In like three years, any single person will be able to make. Any kind of Batman uh entertainment that they want. Mm-hmm. They can’t be sued. They can’t do anything about it. That’s what, and the first thing that always happens is horror. There’s a horror movie. It’s like Mickey Mouse is free. Okay, well, there’s Screamboat Willie. I’ve watched a couple of these Mickey Mouse horror movies. Yeah. Winnie the Pooh is free. Okay, let’s have him kill and eat people. Okay, that is the first thing that’s going to happen with Batman. It’s gonna be a Batman horror movie. Would you like that?
28 Yeah, I think it’d be fun to watch. It’s it’s not not my Batman. You know what I mean? That’s two man horror movie? Yes. I well, they made Brightburn is kind of that, but if they made National Superman in his outfit doing horrible shit, it’ll be like the boys. It’ll be like the boys. Yeah. But instead of instead of what’s his name? Homelander, yeah. Instead of Homelander, it’ll actually be Superman though. Or the Christopher Reeve. Killing people. Yeah. I want to see Christopher Reeve, Dean Cain, George Reeves, Tom Welling, everyone just team, Henry Cavill, just team up. Well, unlike any of that, that’s what we’re talking about. This Ashes of Nurhachi is very respectful and true to the spirit of Indiana Jones. It really is. It felt like It felt like like an actual like it made me like The Young Indiana Jones Chronicles back in the day. It felt kind of like We’re respecting for what it is with little puns here and there because we’re fans of the franchise. Yeah. And it starts with this chase on top of the Great Wall of China with Harrison Ford, not Harrison Ford.
31 And David Yip, not David Yip, in the sidecar of a motorcycle being chased. uh on by people on horseback. It’s exciting to watch. It was classic Indiana Jones opening. Like, like the big opening of Indiana Jones film is like something that’s cool to watch. And it was really. It looked Really good until the camera zooms in and you see the mouth speaking or the bodies don’t line up. But it was fun to watch. I was hooked. Yeah. Actually, we, when you sent me this, I’m like, what is this crap? I started watching on my phone. I was like, Oh my God, this is fun. I said I gotta watch this on the actual T V. You gave it the big screen. Damn it. I watched it on the big on the big screen on h on the T V set, yeah. It’s the kind of thing where I don’t know anything about making these things. Obviously, these folks. Yeah. Did it’s not, it’s just like AI isn’t just going to make this. You have to like tell it exactly what to do. So these folks at Lord Skiff, Aesthetic Rebel.
32 Wrote all this stuff, I’m sure, because there are very specific details in this that explain things not only in the Indiana Jones, but there are jokes. Star Wars jokes, there’s a Blade Runner joke. There are things in this that they had to have. programmed. You know what I mean? Yeah. Oh, yeah. Do you is this how it works? You tell you everything, then it sends you all this at once or do you do pieces? I don’t I’ve never done, I mean, I used AI at work to do certain things for me. And I just know that the more information you give it, the better your result will be. If I said Write me a letter about this. you know, for work. It’ll write me a letter. It’s not going to know specifically what I’m talking about. But if I go, write me a letter that talks about these topics and this person specifically who has these characteristics that I want to celebrate and congratulate and da-da-da-da-da, then my letter is going to come out and I’m going to look at it and say, this looks like I wrote it. Do you is this? I wish I could make stuff like this. Well, you probably could if you just look into them. Do you think they’ll.
38 This is used, you’re done school. Everyone’s done school in our lives. Like, do people use this to print up their term papers? I would say. Although there are now. Because this is another side business. In fact, if I was into investing, this is one thing I would invest in. There is another side business. is creating uh software that is an AI detector. So if you’re a college professor, you run every one of your papers that you’re receiving through the AI detector. And it’s like barr barr this was not written by a human being. Yeah. Okay. You fail. You know what I mean? So it’s like AI checking AI. Man. James Cameron was right. people use this do their homework. Oh, absolutely. Yeah, and even think about that. They bring it home and they ask, yeah, AI, what’s, you know, but the di-de-de-da-da-da. They don’t have to think about it. They could just, holy shit.
40 Yeah. I didn’t even I didn’t didn’t even think of that. Yeah. And there are certainly people that get upset about the amount of water that’s being used to create AI because these servers have to be cooled. There are now companies that I see are taking that into consideration and saying we are doing this, but we have found a way to subvert the amount of water that’s used and da da da, you know, so like I think this is gonna get better and better as things go on. Do you think people are going to take advantage of it? And that’s why it’s going to be the end of the world soon? I don’t think it’s going to be the end of the world. But um There’s there are people that are very against. Using AI at all. Let alone for something as silly as this. Right. But it is a form of entertainment. Is it the same as Spielberg and the amount of heart and soul that goes into it? I don’t think a computer can’t recreate that. Because one of the things about this is there, there is dialogue. It’s Harrison Ford’s voice. Yeah. There is no emotion whatsoever in this. It’s it’s it is creepy in a way as well because uh it is devoid of the emotion of a human being, but it’s technically doing what it’s supposed to do. You know what I mean? It is, but you see there’s no emotion when he says something, there’s no feeling or emotions behind it. It’s not they
59 Did there They’re robots. Yeah, I guess. Yeah, it’s creepy in a way. Um The there are times in this, if you’re watching this and looking for perfection, you’re not going to get it. Because there are times when Um Physics and perspective is off. There’s like a time, there are times that he’s walking and he walks off of something. Now he’s kind of in midair, you know, like that kind of shit happens like a glitch. It’s very glitchy. There’s glitches in video games. It’s like, it’s very much that. There are times that he’s talking and either his mouth isn’t saying what he’s saying, or at times his mouth isn’t moving at all, but words are coming out of his face. Right. Like the opening chase scene, yeah, when it’s going off the Great Wall of China, there’s like steps or whatever, and it’s not even hopping off the steps or it’s not even bouncing. Yeah, it’s little things. You’re not going to get. you’re not gonna get perfection like you were obviously if you were Shooting this because you’ll sit like something will happen to you, man. Man, that looks great. And then four seconds later, go, that looks like shit. Yeah, yeah.
04 But I don’t know. Is it still entertaining? I’m reading the comments on the This on the Facebook, or not Facebook, the YouTube page. And I was expecting. You know, kind of old curmudgeonly, like people to say, this should never happen. It’s not the same. I’m not seeing that. I’m seeing a lot of people saying thank you for making this. It’s for the fans, by the fans. We know it’s not perfect. It’s entertaining. I’ve wondered about some of those things that you’re filling in gaps for that they don’t have the right to fill in the gaps for, but they’re doing it pretty well. It’s like, you know, like the extended universe stuff that we used to talk about on Star Wars and Characters. You know what’s weird? This is exactly what this AI is: it’s extended universe. It’s the books that you can watch. Yeah, Dave, you’re exactly right. So I like that kind of stuff because sometimes Your everyday person that’s a dedicated fan who has spent a lot of time thinking about this has better reasons for the filmmakers and the owners owners of these things than themselves. You know what I mean? You’re right. And I kind of want to.
11 I kinda want more of this stuff, like like all the shit that that we love, like someone’s whatever storytelling of what they think. how something got there or how it happened. Yeah. That is it’s I have nothing against this as long as it doesn’t Kill me during the night. That’s all you care about. I don’t want to be seeing the end of skeletons running down the street. I don’t want to see Robert Patrick ring my doorbell and ask me if I’ve seen this boy. I don’t want that. Telling you how much he likes your bike. Exactly. Don’t get a bike then. Say that’s a nice bike. I don’t have a bike. That’s next door. Okay. Thanks for watching. The funny thing about I’ve taken for my work, I’ve taken a couple of workshops about using AI. you know, m not not just make our work easier, but You know, use y it is a tool that you can Used to make things better in some cases. I’m not talking about necessarily making an Indiana Jones movie, but I’m talking about.
12 The real world. Right, right. And I’ve gone to a few of them, and I heard something at one of these that did actually frighten me. And I don’t know if this is going to make you feel better or not. So if you ask AI something. Uh it will always give you an answer. If it doesn’t know the answer by instantly searching the volumes of the internet, that’s what it does. It’s just like, boom. If you ask it, like, who did this and what year? And what did you do? Yeah, that’s easy to find. Yeah. If it doesn’t know the answer, it will make up an answer because the AI wants to please you. What if I say, like, what’s the meaning of life? Is there a God? Like, it’ll give me an answer. Or it’ll say some people think this, some people think that. But the words that they used that scared me in this is what when it does that, when the AI is Coming up with an answer to please you is that is called the AI hallucinating.
14 So even they don’t know what they’re saying. The AI is hallucinating. point. And to me, that is a very human thing to think of like, you know, like it’s, it’s hallucinating. What do you mean it’s hallucinating? Does that mean it’s like it’s got a brain and it’s hallucinating? No, that scared me. Skynet. Well hear me please. Hear me, I’m see, I’m trying to think, where do you go? Like where do you like if I want to do something right now, is there an is there an an AI app? Like do you goog like where do you find the AI to do this shit? GPT to make pictures, right? Gemini. No. You think of me. You could go right now, like say you wanted to get in shape and you go to Gemini. And you say, Gemini, I’m a 53-year-old man. I weigh this and I do this for a living, and I don’t have a lot of time to exercise. Write me a diet and exercise plan that fits my lifestyle. And in You will have that. I’m tempted now. You should you shouldn’t do that. But has it no like
17 I don’t know. I’m scared. I am just scared of the response and the answers. Like, if I can, you know, make me and Chris Sharif fly together and we’ll do it. But I’m just scared of like real people looking for real shit on the real world. You know what I mean? You know, each year AI is gonna get better and better. Yes. Absolutely. That’s my, I’m sorry. I think, I don’t, I think that, I think sooner or later, this is, this is, this will, maybe not end the world, it’s gonna fuck it up. Yeah. Well I didn’t mean to I didn’t mean to scare you. By bringing this up. But I was going down to the school. I’m getting high ground. Yeah, right. And I’m waiting for the robots. What about in this video? How did you feel about some of the humor? Because there are jokes in it. Some of the jokes, what do you think? It’s not saying I only watched this once and I wanted to watch it again. There’s some humor. There’s something when they crash through to like to like a hot To like a sauna, so yeah, all these growing Asian men that they’re just on there, and he says they were plumbers or something that stupid.
21 I don’t think my Indiana Jones would Would joke that kind of way when he barges in. I don’t know. Some humor was kind of lean. A one line like in these one line is like one little word or two. All this says solo. He says yeah, because his name’s Wu Han Solo. He works solo. It’s just stupid puns. But it’s the fan it’s the fans who did that. Yeah. I kinda like some of the jokes. I don’t mind even the well, okay, so. The thing you’re talking about is they’re trapped. They have to burst through a wall and they burst through into this kind of like Chinese bathhouse. There’s a bunch of little. There’s a bunch of little men there. Old men and they’re old men. And they’re all like yelling and screaming, and their newspapers are all wet in the water. And uh Indy says something like, we’re plumbing inspectors. Yeah. And they’re just yelling at him. And then there’s a throwback to Raiders because he goes, large leak, very dangerous.
23 Oh, I didn’t put that together. So he’s doing like, you know, the Sallah line with the snakes. I didn’t put that together and even when you said but when you what did he say again? Plumbers were plumbing inspectors, yeah. And that kind of sounds like: are you a teacher part-time? Like that kind of thing? Yeah. I think some of the stuff leads, whereas some of it doesn’t. And the one that you’re talking about is the Biggest Star Wars reference is pretty terrible because one of the other things I really like about this is we did an episode on Wu Han. So if you’re just finding this show, I say this all the time, go back and listen to our old episodes where we actually talk about the characters because I am very proud of some of the past work we’ve done. I’m not saying I’m proud of this, but the Wu Han episode was one of my favorite episodes that we did because he was so mysterious. Who is this guy? And he’s working with Indy and Indy obviously cares about him. And he gets shot, and it’s like, who is this guy? Right. And I honestly, I actually compared to Indiana Jones.
28 Body and physique, and everything. And then in Temple of Doom, he’s like, we went on many adventures. This time I go, I go first. I’m thinking, How did you go on with Indiana Jones? How did you help Indy do something? Right. And that’s kind of a spleen, a little mission that they did together. Yeah. It is. At least, this is the last thing. That they’ve done together. Who knows what came before? But they set this up a lot in this story where Indy is saying, Um have to go down a hole. They’re going to find Nurhachi’s ashes. And uh And he’s like You go first, Indy. And he’s like, Well, you always say that, or something like that. So, yes, setting up. And then at they get to the bottom, he says something like, next time I’ll go first. So when he says that line then in Temple of Doom, you’re like, okay, well, these guys set this up. You know? Right. Um it was a great Call back to remind you about something. But then when he says, I did go for it, I worked Han Solo, I’m like, you know, where’s the dumb rim shot? You know what I mean? That is the dumbest part of the entire thing. I will say that. Because I do, the thing I was going to say is, I really like.
42 That they give Wu Han a real purpose. Wu Han has a, in this movie slash, Short video. He kicks some ass. He does. For being someone, I’m like, what does this guy do? He’s holding a platter in Temple of Doom. What’s he doing? They set him up as definitely a worthy sidekick. Of Indiana Jones. And there is A scene where they’re separately fighting people and they have Harrison Fordish. Um yell out. Tell me you don’t need me. Wu Han, tell me you don’t need me because they’re both fighting. He’s worried about him in this story. Right. And he’s like, and then he kicks the guy’s ass and he says, I don’t need you. I am Wu Han Solo, yeah, and the camera, which honestly, there is no camera because it’s all no camera, yeah. The camera zooms into that, so you feel the punness dumb, it’s dumb. That’s dumb, it is dumb, it is dumb, but then but then you see.
45 Short Round, which was, I think, adorable. But then there’s times the Short Round did not look like Short Round. Yeah, and Short Round and Wu Han see each other and hug. and Indy and Short Round see each other and hug and it’s like, okay. They’re a little unit. They’re a little family. You know, I like where they’re going with this. I love that all of the bad guys are Al Leong from Uh lethal weapon and die hard. Uh yeah, yeah, they were even I even told Looked at, I said, This is this is the bad guy. These are the villains from like other great 80s action movies of mine. Yeah. Yeah. I mean, it’s kinda like he’s a oompa lumpa. Like Every single person has his face and looks like him. Right. But who doesn’t love him that’s our age, either torturing Martin Riggs or eating a candy bar out of the concession stand and die hard before they, you know. shoot at the agents and that was that was the great thing the agents was he was in in every he was a villain in every action film and and then i see him now he’s he’s just an old agent man but still in all he kicks ass like in these movies and stuff you know what i mean yeah
57 After the whole scene with the um Ashes, they the ashes they don’t get the ashes necessarily, but they find an escape route. It’s uh you know there there’s we certainly have snakes. We have rats. We have ants. And in this they go with slugs. Yeah, which I wasn’t very I guess it was creeper for them to walk through to crawl through it and stuff and everything. Yeah. I like that. It wasn’t really. you know, I wasn’t I guess I’m not afraid of slugs, but I guess But it was that many. It was a million of them, yeah. Yeah. And that’s those scenes work pretty well with me, too, because I think that that’s something that the AI probably. It didn’t need to be like a famous slug. It just needed to be a slug. So they can do that pretty easily. And there was, they had gas masks on at that point, and they weren’t talking. And you couldn’t see their mouths necessarily. That was like a good way to cheat. Yes, that is a benefit. Cause I think even with the Star Wars, when they had.
02 Peter Cushing’s family gave them permission to resurrect him digitally. And it looked and carried. Yeah. Yeah, and it looked really great until he talked. Yeah, yeah. Even the with even Mandalorian, didn’t they do that with young Mark Hamill, Luke Skywalker? Looks like from a distance. Yeah, have him fight, have him do his thing, but as soon as he opens his mouth, the the getting the mouth with the words is not There yet with this. But you’re right. It’s emotion. When you talk a certain way, your eyebrows, your cheeks, your face moves to certain words and emotions and feelings. Yeah. And they can’t match it up yet. But don’t worry. They were but in the Planet of the Apes movies you can feel the emotions. That is true. Those are masks that are connected to their real jaw. Um Yeah. Yeah, all the dots will go with your face. When Andy Serkis farts, you can tell he’s farting because his cheekbones go up a little bit. Rip. Huh?
10 I like the the brief Sallah scene even though nothing he says matches his mouth. The thing that made me laugh in this, because I watched it again this morning, is I Sallah has another brother-in-law. I like this joke that you imagine Sallah has brothers-in-law. Everywhere. And they all are a connection to something because that’s what happens in Last Crusade with the camels. I see camels, you know. It says, my brother-in-law, you know, like so in this, he’s like, he’s like, Sal, I need a connection to antiquities in China. My brother-in-law, he sells carpets. You know, it doesn’t matter. No, like a brother-in-law means that is his sister’s husband, right? Right. Yes. Yeah. So which means like didn’t Sallah Have like 10 kids. Million kids, yeah. Okay. And so, which means that he came from a family who probably has like 15 kids, 20 kids, and when he has like. 12 sisters. Sure. So he does have a huge fucking family to pick from. I love that. When I watch that, and when I watch this, and I listen to him on the phone and he mentions his brother-in-law, it makes me smile. You can tell that these people are fans, like they said, by fans, for fans. They are injecting fan fiction into something that we can see.
30 And you’re right, this is this is the EU in the books now, which When when you put it that way… I love it. I really do. I really love seeing I want to see more of my childhood franchises that I love. I want to see Riggs and his youth kicking ass, you know, in the fucking war or something. You know what I mean? They could 100% make Martin Riggs. Vietnam War. Movie. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. I wouldn’t, but why, why do I feel I don’t want a two hour movie in the theater. Make me a fifteen, twenty minute little fan film thing? And I I’ll love it. Why do I have That’s where I draw the line. Two hours, no. 20 minutes, yes. Well, the other, I mean, maybe you get tired of watching something that you know isn’t real. Although you do that when you watch. Um Yeah. Instead of like a fan film, they could do like a like a mini series. Like eight episodes. Oh, don’t do this to me. Well the other the other I watch all that.
33 The other thing about this that would say is a controversial topic. If this keeps getting better and you keep doing this, actors are done. Yeah, right. There’s no need for them. But You would think, I don’t know, like, can they use Like this is just fan films, there there’s no like if you wanna make something with Harrison Ford as young Indiana Jones a two-hour movie. And he’s alive still, you gotta ask permission, right? And then you have then he’ll get paid for his likeness and his voice and everything, but he doesn’t have to do all the work now. Like, if you’re charging, yeah, for right. For that. I mean, that’s the deal that he just made with Disney for this new ride that’s going to be in. You know, like they’re going to use his You know, whatever you call that body capture, he’s the model. And for the first time, I’m the model. So this is this is an AI version of him. It’s a robot. Like, do you think that he’s getting paid because people are paying him to see it?
37 To sell his voice? He did, he sold his voice. But in the opening of this new the Indiana Jones and whatever, the the Dial of Destiny. They EI’d Harrison’s face on A young actor, isn’t that the same thing? Isn’t that AI? Yeah, but that’s all that’s that’s a deal that was brokered. Younger. Was it Harris? It was his, it wasn’t his body running around on that train. I think maybe at times it was, but some of that shit, obviously, it wasn’t him. Yeah. That’s a deal that was brokered between the movie studio, him, you know, the creators. Like, that is like a big-time business deal. This thing that we’re watching on YouTube. Is a couple of guys. In a In a basement, in their mom’s basement. Well, I mean, these people, I’ve looked at some of the other things they’ve done. What other shit have they done? Have you done it in the movies? They’ve done other Indiana Jones things. There is a thing called The Adventures of Short Round. That you can watch. We gotta watch that one. It’s Short Round is maybe a 20-something year old. And it really looks like a combination of what.
44 Ke Huy Quan looks like now versus a little bit of Jackie Chan. And in the first one, there’s a couple of them. In the first one, I think they use Jackie Chan’s voice. But in the other one, there’s one called this one about. Um Mutt Williams. Having not died. And Short Round rescues him from some kind of prison camp. And it’s Shia LaBeouf. Then running around with the 25-year-old Ke Huy Quan. That is that’s these are This is better. I will say this. This is better for me because I don’t want to read. I love this shit because I can watch this stuff and not read about it. You don’t want to read. I don’t want to read. Like, I would love to see this. I don’t want to read it and make my own image. I want someone to do all the work for me. Yeah. Yeah, I’ll show you the I know that people can’t see my screen, but there’s one called The Lost Sun. It’s uh a Dial of Destiny era.
47 movie. It’s only six minutes and 37 seconds. of Short Round meeting Mutt Williams and rescuing him. And he still has, I see you, your little image, he still wearing his baseball hats. He still wears the baseball hat. Just to tell us that Short Round, just not a short anymore. But it also looks like him. And in that one, I did watch that one. It’s it’s Quan’s voice. It’s not this Jackie Chan thing. There’s a James Bond one here. I watched a little bit of that. It’s. It’s Sean Connery fighting Jaws. Bullet for Tomorrow? It’s a double. Bullet for Tomorrow. It’s Sean Connery and a Bullet for Tomorrow. It’s got 147 42,000 views. It’s him. Fighting Jaws and Blofeld. I mean I gotta watch these. Like, this is fun. This is fun. Red. And and I’m just
55 I am so ama like sometimes I’m like it’s scary’cause I’m like that looks like Sean Connery and that looks like Richard Kiel it it looks It’s amazing that it looks so real, even though you tell yourself this isn’t real. And there might be people listening to this that have known about this kind of stuff for a long time. And they’ll think about it. We’re just figuring out. Where have these guys been? This is like a thing. We now know that and we’re deciding whether or not we like it, I guess. Basically, there’s another thing in the Ashes of Nurhachi that I really Got it, got me like to definitely like not just smaba go, like, well done. And his contact, Sallah’s contact when he gets to Shanghai to get the ashes. is Victor Wong. Who is the guy? He’s in everything too. He’s in all John Carpenter’s movies. He’s in Big Trouble in Little China. He’s egg shape. I know. Yeah. I know exactly what he’s talking about. Yep. So they did a good job of getting that era’s actors to play these parts.
57 Right, rather than tossing in Ryan Gosling today or something. Right. Yeah. Or just some random person. It’s like, oh, that’s Victor Wong. But it’s not Victor Wong. I know. You just have to keep reminding yourself, it’s not Victor Wong. Did you like the Jaws reference? Yeah, the Was it Smally Summitch? Yeah, they’re in one of those tuk-tuks that they have in Dial of Destiny. There’s a plane. I mean, some of the things in this, it’s like this plane. Like, just easily killing them. It misses every time. The same with the Great Wall. They’re like, the horses are. Basically, right behind them, shooting at them and missing. You got to let all that go. I did say that too. I said these people have some horrible shots. And then he and then he shoots one time and shoots a guy off. Yeah. Smiling. Son of a bitch. Yeah. Yeah. You know, I did. I turned on the goes like, oh boy. You know what I mean? But, you know, I’m not going to turn it off. You know what I mean? Now. The thing that I thought was the best about this setting up
00 right before Temple of Doom was the stuff with Lao Che’s son. So all we know from the original movie is he goes to make the deal for the diamond. And Indy says something like Um Somebody broke into my hotel room last night. I think it might have been your son, you know, and he’s sitting across the table with a broken arm. Yes, it shows you what happened. You get to see him come into the hotel room. He’s trying to steal it and Indy break his arm. Yeah, it connects the dots. Yeah, it connects the dots perfectly. Yeah. And there’s something about At the end of this, you see like Short Round outside, and you see I’m such a connery because when Harrison Ford comes wearing that white suit, it always is a callback to Dr. No. Yeah. And then he walks into Obi-Wan and it’s like That’s where Temple of Doom starts. I want to watch Temple of Doom now, kind of. You know what I mean? Right, to lead right into it. Yeah, they kind of go together, they go together and they separate, and there’s a lady outside that’s like a fortune teller.
03 And she says something about how one of them isn’t going to come back. And he says something like, Dr. Jones always comes back, and she’s like, I’m not talking about him. Yeah. And then I’m like, who’s going to die? Then I realized oh, I’ve seen 10 won’t do it. And I even like the way they ended. It’s almost like a back to the future kind of thing because it says, to be continued in Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom. And that’s the way it ends. I have nothing against it if it’s Something I like to watch, I guess, you know what I mean? Like, it’s fun seeing other people’s ideas of what would could happen. Yeah. But. Taking actors’ placements like, you know, five, 10 years from now, no more acting, no more actors. It’s like, I don’t know how I feel about that. I want to see the emotion and the heart that actors bring that some. Robot. You know what I mean? Yeah, I hear you. It’s a slippery slope.
04 I don’t think that these machines are ever going to uh obviously be able to Do. What a human being can do. As far as a performance and things like that. So I don’t know if we need to worry about that necessarily, but uh I I agree with you, I think that this has a place. I don’t know what place it is yet. Yeah, it has a place right over here on the corner shelf that I don’t mind it if it just stays there. Yeah. But I did have fun watching it. Kind of blast. I mean, who am I? If I start criticizing it, criticizing it or am I criticizing myself for liking it? You know what I mean? So I don’t necessarily know where I stand either on any of these things. I think it’s a good thing to. Maybe revisit and come back to for yourself. I’m not saying on this show. Uh I applaud these folks. What other ones would you like to shake? Anything. Like I told you, there’s that new Superman and his mom. His mom is telling him how you can become another person, like how you become Clark Kent.
06 and try your hair like this, stand up straight or do this, do that. And I’m like That’s sweet. Like anything. Any like I would like to see what what um Brody and Hooper do. Yeah. After they swim back to the shore. I don’t know, like just a little side stories. The threesome with Mrs. Brody. That’s yeah, that happens in the book. Anything. I guess anything. I wouldn’t. Like, Rambo, but I know they’re making a Rambo movie. Yeah. Like a younger Rambo. Like, anything. Anything that. The what just came out. I saved your ass. It was a movie that just came out. I saved your ass. It was Spider-Man and the Punisher, he’s telling stories I I was there for you in in Brooklyn and no one knows what happened’cause th it wasn’t nothing filmed. Show that. Oh, yeah, yeah, yeah. You know what I mean? It was like Staten Island or something. Yeah, I saved your ass on Staten Island. Showed me the medicine. Anything, anything, I guess. Well, that’s all I got. It was it’s
09 Dave’s like, I’m I’m so like, I don’t mind watching it. Don’t want like a full length. I don’t want like a two, I don’t want to go to a theater knowing this whole thing. But they was right. Why do I watch cartoons? Why do I watch Toy Story? It’s all AI. It’s all not real. You know what I mean? Like, I don’t know. I don’t wanna see like I wanna say real. I don’t wanna see real people up on screen knowing that they’re not real people. Well, also, when you’re watching animation, you at least know that that’s a human being doing the voice. And in cases of, like, say, Toy Story or Robin Williams, when he would do it, they would. Often animate it than to even match what he had done in his what they’re saying, yeah, how they’re he’s in the booth acting, jump up and down. They they do that. It’s it’s a it is a weird, slippery slope. You don’t know which side you yeah, you’re on. You were at least seeing a performance. When you were seeing those animated movies, even though nothing you were watching was real, what you were hearing was a performance. And this. There isn’t a goddamn real thing in this. And they do anything, anything that just ends.
15 Oh, wow. He went there. Did you hear this, Dave? But do you know what I would say? What it’s all AI. Oh yeah. So fake. None of that’s real cause it’s not real people. That’s how I would handle that situation. Right there. Yeah, he And for a while I thought he’s serious. He’s got talk about Vin D’s all summer. No, he went right he went right to to to Michael and his and his beard. Yeah, well, I don’t wanna be around two of you the rest of the day. Going to be an all-day fight. This was fun though. And I wanna it’s I wanted to do like we should I would watch the rest. I didn’t know there was more of these Indiana Jones ones. There you go. Yeah. Do they all connect to one another? Probably not, I guess. They’re all just rolling. Yeah, this was like a standalone thing for the Temple of Doom prequel. If you’re a listener of the show, you must have obviously like Indiana Jones. weigh whether or not You supporting AI in this way is worth it. And if you, if you do, I hope you enjoy it because I found it enjoyable.
22 Well I think we should change your name. in character. Really? KIJ in character. Yeah, okay. Yeah, whatever. Well they thank you. This this this was fun’cause I really enjoyed watching it and I really had had a good time going, wow, this is pretty cool. And then it’s like, oh, what’s that? I want one but I still had fun watching it how it was a zone someone’s idea, which is perfectly fine. And and th And we would just someone of Mike Myers as Michael Myers. That Mike Myers, Mike Myers, Michael Myers, whatever. There’s AIs crack me to crack me to fuck off. Some are just funny as fuck. And some were pretty scary, I think. Anyway, well thank you Dave. Excellent idea. All right. We did it. I guess we’ll see you next time when another AI Something Happens by Indiana Jones, which Might be soon, yeah. Luke, stay tuned, all right? All right. Thank you for listening. We’ll see you next time on AIJIC.
