Halloween Horror Nights History: Every Year Since 1991

Halloween Horror Nights started small. In 1991, Universal Studios Florida ran three nights of “Fright Nights,” with one haunted house built in the queue of the closed Jaws ride. Since then it has grown into a major annual event, with its own icons, legends and decades of houses and scare zones.

The Catacombs of Halloween Horror Nights has been documenting that history since 2015. These pages collect nearly 200 episodes, organized by year:

  • 1991–2014: episode-by-episode looks back at each year’s houses, scare zones, shows and icons.
  • 2015 to today: live coverage of each new season, from the first announcements to opening night and the final wrap-up.

New here? Start with 1991 Fright Nights, where the history begins, or The Icons for the characters behind the event. Full write-ups for every year are on the way; until then, each year below links straight to its episodes.
