Old Time Radio Horror – Lights Out – Valse Triste

Welcome to the first episode of our 2024 Halloween Season Special Series: Old-time Radio Horror. If you’ve been a listener of the NEOZAZ Halloween feed for some time, you may remember this series debuting in 2020 as part of our Covid lockdown releases. It expanded with a few more episodes for that year’s Halloween celebration. After that, it returned for a 13-episode run for Halloween 2021.

And if you’re hearing this – it’s back again – 13 more episodes of classic audio horror showcased during October as part of our 2024 Halloween celebration.

We kick off this year’s edition of Old time radio horror with an episode of the classic series “Lights Out.”

It’s called “Valse Triste” and was first aired by NBC on March 30th, 1938.

It was written and produced during the Arch Oboler era of Lights Out. It’s about two young women on a camping trip that takes some time to row on a nearby lake. When they dock their boat on a small island to pick some flowers, they come across a strange house belonging to an isolated and crazed psychopath who demands one woman marry him, and the other woman dies.

So again, this Halloween season – relax, turn down the lights, and sit back and enjoy this Lights Out episode, “Valse Triste”.
